Event Details

Our film series for adults will occur on Monday, July 25 at 2:00pm in the library's community meeting rooms. The library will show the film The Great Escape (1963). The film series will continue every fourth Monday of the month at 2:00pm.

The Great Escape is an adventure suspense war film starring Steve McQueen, James Garner and Richard Attenborough. The film is based on Paul Brickhill's 1950 non-fiction book of the same name, a firsthand account of the mass escape by British Commonwealth prisoners of war from German POW camp Stalag Luft III in Sagan (now Żagań, Poland), in the Nazi Germany province of Lower Silesia. The film depicts a heavily fictionalized version of the escape, with numerous compromises for its commercial appeal, such as focusing more on American involvement in the escape.

Join our film critic, Tom LaVille, for a great discussion after the movie, as well as free popcorn and lemonade. This event is free and open to the public, aged 18 and over. This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Marshalltown Public Library.
