Program Description

Event Details

This storytime, on the West Lawn, will feature books that celebrate the common relationship of art and engineering, with their interactive and hands-on features. We'll have a special guest appearance by Stephen T. Johnson, artist creator of one of our favorite moveable books: Little Red Toolbox, and many more!

We'll share books that pop and move, have flaps to lift and tabs to pull, followed by a chance for families to explore many from our collection up close, while they relax on the lawn. Summer lunch will be free and available for kids (ages 1-18, as supplies last), starting at 11 am, who want to have a little picnic.

Stephen will be at the library after storytime until about 12:30, with a few of his books available from Beaverdale Books, for sale and to have signed. He will also do a short presentation at NOON about this work.

Stephen T. Johnson is a Caldecott-award winning artist, illustrator, book creator, and more. He is the artist of the new Scherzo sculpture installed outside the Marshalltown High School this summer.

Stephen's visit to storytime and the follow-up Meet & Greet, is made possible thanks to the Marshall County Arts and Culture Alliance.
