The Marshalltown Public Library will have an author talk and signing with journalist and restaurant critic Wini Moranville on Saturday, September 14 at 2:00pm in the library's community meeting rooms.

Ever wonder what it's like to be a restaurant critic? Find out when you join author and restaurant reviewer Wini Moranville for some highlights from her memoir, Love Is My Favorite Flavor: A Midwestern Dining Critic Tells All. Wini will recount some great (and not-so-great) moments during her long tenure as the Des Moines Register's restaurant reviewer--from pitfalls like getting recognized at restaurants and receiving vicious hate-mail, to having a front-row seat to the exciting changes that have happened in the American restaurant scene in the past 25 years.

Moranville currently covers the local food scene via her Substack newsletter, "Dining Well in DSM." From 1997 to 2012, she served as The Des Moines Register's dining critic and later wrote about local restaurants for dsm magazine. She's also written hundreds of stories for national food publications and websites and is the author of Love Is My Favorite Flavor: A Midwestern Dining Critic Tells All (University of Iowa Press; July 2024). Everyday French Cooking (Harvard Common Press, 2022) and The Little Women Cookbook (Harvard Common Press, 2019).

This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Marshalltown Public Library and is free and open to the public. Books will be for sale and signing after the event from Beaverdale Books.
