Linda Betsinger McCann, author of The Civilian Conservation Corps in Northeast Iowa, will give a presentation at the Marshalltown Public Library on Sunday, November 13 at 2:00p.m. in the library's community meeting rooms.
Her presentation will explore the work that the Civilian Conservation Corps did in Iowa in the 1930s and 1940s. The Civilian Conservation Corps was a public work relief program that operated from 1933 to 1942. This New Deal program was designed to assist young men in supporting their families after the Great Depression and to renew the state’s natural resources. The CCC did a lot of work in the State Parks in Iowa and also completed projects that dealt with soil erosion, flood control and planting trees.
Linda Betsinger McCann is an author who researches and writes about the history of Iowa. In addition to The Civilian Conservation Corps in Northeast Iowa, McCann is the author of the Iowan books' Lost County series in which she explores the towns, institutions, and other history that may have been forgotten in counties across Iowa as well as several other books. Many of her books can be found in the Marshalltown Public Library’s collection.
Books will be for sale after the presentation. This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Marshalltown Public Library and is free to the community. For more information, call the library at 641-754-5738 or visit our website at www.marshalltownlibrary.org.
